While Greengairs Parish Church has a history dating back to 1876 the old Church building had to be demolished as a result of a survey which disclosed that it was in danger of iminent collapse. The new Church Building was opened in July 1992 and comprises a Hall Church, a Church Hall, Session Room and Vestry. In normal circumstances the church seats approximately 130 but because individual seats are used this can be increased if necessary. The familiar War Memorial remains in its original location and the theme of the Celtic Cross has been utilised on the exterior of the building as well as in various places in the interior.
In January 1977 the Parish of Greengairs was linked with New Monkland from which it had originally been disjoined and on July 13 of that year the Rev. Alan Andrew Ford BD was inducted as minister of the linked charge. Mr. Ford had been serving a Probationary Period at Mains of Fintry Church Dundee, though originally he came from Glasgow. The Basis of linking of the two churches stated that both churches should have their principal service at 12.00 noon and that an assistant should be provided whose main place of residence would be the Manse of Greengairs. Unfortunately for a number of years the assistance promised was hard to find. Those serving as assistants over the years include Rev. William Stewart, Rev. William Winthrop, Rev. Matthew Stewart and then for five years the Rev. Dr. David Graham who was lecturing at the Glasgow Bible College helped out. After a gap of several years a Deacon, Mr. Andrew A. Flockhart was appointed and served for almost eight years before retiring early on health grounds.
By 1998 the Services were at 10.30 at New Monkland and 11.45 at Greengairs with Mr. Ford travelling back and forth between the churches. The Manse of Greengairs having fallen into a state of disrepair was sold in the early eighties and the Manse of New Monkland became the sole Manse of the linked charge.
When Mr. Ford and his wife, Mary came to the linked charge they had one daughter, Barbara, just a few months old and she was baptised on his first Sunday as minister. A year later their second daughter, Aileen Kirsty, was born.. In the early summer of 1999 Mr. Ford became the longest serving minister of Greengairs.
In January of 2000 Mr. Ford left the linked parishes of Greengairs and New Monklands to take up the position of Minister at Springburn Parish Church, Glasgow.
On Thursday 8th November 2001 Rev. Randolph Scott MA; BD was inducted as the new Minister of New Monkland and Greengairs Parish Churches.
